Babel

State of Being : Relaxed

Watched the critically acclaimed Golden Globe Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated movie Babel over the weekend at the Cathay Cineplex.

The movie weaves together 4 compelling stories taking place in different corners of the world - Morocco, Japan and Mexico, interlocked with characters who are related to one another in one way or the other.

The overlapping narrative style of story structure is somewhat similar to another movie Crash. While Crash centres on racial and social tensions in Los Angeles as its theme, Babel attempts to explore on the lack of communication spanning across different cultures.

Overall an entertaining and thought-provoking movie even though I felt that the story on the rebellious deaf Japanese teenage girl, Chieko, is kinda out-of-place with the rest of the other three narrations.

Final verdict:

Plot - ****, Effects - NA, Substance - ****
