The Simpsons Movie
State of Being : Do the Bartman
*Gosh* Last watched The Simpsons Movie on 25 July, but just could not find the time to review it. Anw before I leave for BKK for the regional meeting later today (flight is at 810am!), here's my short assessment of the movie. For those who's an ardent fan of the Simpsons series, you'll be thrilled to know that this movie, at 88min long, offers 3 times the amount of jokes than the TV edition. The jokes are aplenty, though "brainless" but hilarious. Who could ever forget the silly "Spider-Pig" song by Homer Simpson?! Then there are those clever one-liner jokes that just tickles your funny bone and till now my colleagues keep repeating them (read: "I was elected to LEEEAD and not to REEEAD" by President Schwarzenegg)
Plot-wise, there just isn't much logic to the overall development of the story. EPA places Springfield in a giant glass dome? *huh* Homer is able to defy gravity and save the day by cycling up the side of the dome to dispose the bomb? *huh huh* Simply said, be sure to just check your brain at the entrance of the cinema before you watch this movie.
On a closing note, I'll probably wouldn't pay to watch this movie in the cinema if it wasn't for our red team outing (and the tickets are FREE!!). IMHO, watching it on DVD would suffice since there are no special effects at all for this movie.

Singapore's Tallest Wedding Cake
State of Being : "White" a Sight!
Spotted this tall tower of creamy sight during my lunch time at Bugis Junction.
Apparently, InterContinental Singapore has created Singapore's tallest wedding cake, which stands at nearly 5 metres high, and weighs a heafy 1,400kg.
Consisting of 9 layers of traditional rich fruit cake, the super tall bridal cake requires 150kg of wheat flour and 5,000 eggs, and took 18 chefs, 80 hours of baking time.
Currently on display at Bugis Junction from 20-22 July 2007, the wedding cake is said to be available for sale to the public and the proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Charity.
Hmmm... after 3 days of the cake being left out in the open for display, and without any form of refrigeration, I truly wonder whether the cake will still be edible after the "ordeal"...

Potential Breakup Song
Aly & AJ
Insomniatic
Pop
Video Link
Aly & AJ, the teen pop duo sisters, who brought you the previous singles "Rush" and "Walking On Sunshine" from their Platinum debut album "Into The Rush", are back with a new CD and a new sound. For their second studio album "Insomniatic", the sisters have added new wave sonics-like synths & voice effects to rather hypnotic effects.
"Potential Breakup Song", the first single released from the album, combines pop/rock with an edgy dance-ability. The lyrics played with the idea that the guy in the relationship will be worse off without the girl (You’re not livin’ till you’re livin’Livin’ with me), only realising his loss after she's gone. In fact, it has been said that the song was written about the recent breakup of AJ.
Currently at No. 23 in its third week on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, "Potential Breakup Song" is the group's best single performance on the Billboard Hot 100 to-date.

Transformers
After almost 1 month of the movie release, finally caught the much anticipated movie remake of the year - Transformers. Directed by Michael Bay and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, the 2007 live action film, based on the Transformers franchise, was simply big, loud, senseless, campy and ridiculous all rolled into one.Of course the special effects in the movie are awesome. You'll be amazed at how the transformation of robots to everyday electronics and back again looked seamless and natural on screen. In fact, computer animation has reached such a remarkable level that you’ll have no trouble imagining that these huge robots are really doing battle amidst California’s freeways.
Though the movie rates highly on the special effects, it however fell short on the characterization aspects. Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, etc. all have distinct personalities but it was a disappointment that the filmmakers did not let these bots take over the spectacle. The film tends to revolve much more on the human stories, involving an ‘everyman’ young guy Sam Witwicky and the woman of his dreams, Mikaela Banes. In short, the robots were simply unmemorable and plain forgettable.
Final verdict:

All Sold Out?!
State of Being : Frustrated :X
Realising that Orchard Cineplex had more showings for the movie, we proceeded there in the hope of getting the 920pm tickets. Much to our dismay, it was also sold out, along with the 955pm and 1030pm slots and the next available timing was after midnight. Out of "desperation", we thought we will settle for either (1) the Transformers movie at other cinemas or (2) another show like Harry Potter, but sadly all the tickets were sold out as well at The Cathay and even Cathay AMK Hub. By then, we had dropped the idea of the movie and simply went for a dinner instead.
p.s. found some consolation with having a picture taken with theYELLOW family @ VivoCity

Live Earth (7.7.07)
As Live Earth marks the beginning of a multi-year mass persuasion campaign to move individuals, corporations and governments to take action, we can only hope that the concerted efforts will not be futile.
For a start, I will make a conscious effort to unplug my handphone charger from the socket after charging since the unit will continue to drain energy even without the handphone connected to it.
