Call it intuition, but you'll probably know a song is gonna to be a future worldwide hit if you are already hooked by it after listening to it only once. And that's exactly how I felt when I first listened to Beyoncé's latest single "If I Were A Boy", released alongside "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" as the leading single from her third studio album "I Am... Sasha Fierce".
Lyrically, this stunning ballad was written by an up and coming singer BC Jean, and there are two versions of the song. Compared to the original version, Beyoncé's rendition is more emotive and mournful, while BC Jean's version reeks more of anguish and pain. Of the two versions, I have to admit I prefer Beyoncé's more.
Clearly this is Beyoncé's most affecting offering since her last single "Listen" from the film adaptation of the Broadway muscial Dreamgirls. And in my opinion, she has managed to turn in yet another stellar vocal performance and this song will defnitely be another potential "Irreplaceable-like" smash!
