A Banquet In Stone
State of Being : Mouth-Watering *slurp*
If you think the pig’s trotters and eggs in dark soy sauce dish looks tempting to be eaten, look closely again. The “dish” isn’t the real thing, but is made up of rare Gobi stones from Inner Mongolia. Valued at $130,000, it is one of 52 "delicacies" and the most expensive "dish" on display at "A Banquet In Stone", a quirky exhibition, on loan from Taiwanese stone collector Hsu Chun-I, at the National Museum of Singapore.
Featuring a sumptuous spread from East and West, on the menu of the stoney banquet are Asian dishes such as shark's fin soup, abalone, Hong Kong style dim sum, Yangzhou fried rice and "bak kut teh", and Western fare such as foie gras, caviar, walnut ice cream and coffee cake roll.
Chocolate Delights! The highlight of the feast has got to be the jinxiang stone from Yunnan in China which not only looks like chocolate, but smells like it too due to the break-down of organic materials in its environment.
Indeed, it will be difficult for anyone to resist the temptation of "trying the dishes" but this is one banquet that's solely a feast for the eyes, and not for the stomach!
