Dreams In Flight! B)

State of Being : Captivated

As part of the Singapore Arts Festival opening celebrations, the renowned Spanish troup La Fura dels Baus was in town over the weekend to wow us with its award-winning performance entitled "Dreams In Flight".

Known for its multi-sensory theatrical experience that often involves audience participation, spectators watched with bated breath as a giant human-wheel (reminiscence of a hamster wheel but only larger!) dangled capriciously over their heads while moving across the entire performance ground. While the performance may only lasted for a mere few minutes, but it was definitely exhausting on the part of the performers.

Giant "Hamster" Wheel

Next up on the performance involves an amazing aerial net of human bodies moving in synchronicity, magically suspended in "space". Accordingly, these performers are actually normal-day-people, like you and I, who partake voluntarily for this act!

36 volunteers suspended in mid-air

Finally the show closes with a spectacular display of pyrotechnics as the sky lights up with brilliant showers of fireworks in a celebration of joyous optimism!

Optical Illusion

State of Being : I see 3-D

Incidentally, as part of Nokia's publicity campaign for N95, the Finnish company has invited a English chalk artist Julian Beever to do up a pavement drawing, which is currently on display also at City Hall.

Setup within near vicinity of Project: Eden - The Festival Nest, under the shelter of a big white tentage, Julian Beever’s anamorphic illusional drawing of Singapore’s skyline creates a 3-dimensional impression when seen from a certain viewpoint. Accordingly, the instruction inscribed on the pavement near the display states to view the drawing through a camera in order to see the 3-D effect.

when viewed from the 'wrong' side

It's really amazing that the 3-D effect seems so real when viewed correctly!

Garden of Eden

State of Being : 'Gardening' Mood

"Garden of Eden"

Amidst the concrete office & shopping buildings in City Hall belies a very lovely garden - the "Garden of Eden".

In conjunction with the Singapore Arts Festival, this flora installation housed in a 40 foot yellow container titled Project Eden, has been converted into an interactive exhibit where the public can find information and latest updates on the Festival.

The "Flowers" on display

The real deals!
Top left clockwise: Blue Tulips, Yellow Poppies, Cala Lilies

In case, you should ever want to admire the flora up close, you'll be surprised that the palm trees, tulips, cala lilies, yellow poppies etc are in fact hair clips, hair curlers, sponges and toilet brushes in assorted colours!

Open to the public from now till 24 Jun (10.30 am to 8.00 pm daily), this beautiful art installation is the brain-child of Donna Ong. Incidentally, Donna Ong also participated in the Singapore Biennale last year (Revisit: Singapore Biennale 2006).

Featured Song In My iPod _05.07

State of Being : 'Warrior Woman'

Bouncing Off Clouds
Tori Amos

American Doll Posse
Alternative

Video Link (AOL Live Version)

Credited as the 2nd single off singer-songwriter Tori Amos' ninth studio album "American Doll Posse", the ultra-catchy "Bouncing Off Clouds" justifies the greatness Tori is capable of in her songwriting and producing.

Sung from the perspective of a fictitious character - Clyde, the song describes how Clyde deals with having been disappointed in her life, finally getting over a relationship and feeling carefree & happy again.

After the dismay release of her last album "The Beekeeper" and judging by this single, Tori certainly seems well on track with this collection dubbed as her comeback album!

Where's Spidey?

State of Being : Peek-a-Boo

Spider-Man is everywhere these days; in the cinemas, in the shopping centres, on the TV channels, in the magazines, on mobile MMS, and even in the fast food joints.

Actually long before "Spider-Man 3" even came to town, Spidey was already a fixture in my room and office...

Here's Spidey in my room...

And Spidey 'lurking' in my office...

Latest addition to the set (compliments of Burger King)! ;)

Spider-Man 3

State of Being : Webby

Reprising his role for the third time as the web spinning superhero, Spider-Man 3 sees Toby Maguire as Peter Parker / Spider-Man battling several enemies - and an enemy within - in a psychological conflict as he grows arrogant with the city starting to embrace him for the first time in his career.

With the introduction of three villains, the movie is mostly character-driven, plotting along the straining relationship of Mary Jane and Peter Parker / Spider-Man, the internal struggle of Spider-Man with his all-black new persona, Harry Osborn / New Globin's grapple with the death of his father, the somewhat sympathetic Flint Marko / Sandman, and the jealousy turned hatred new photographer rival - Eddie Brock, Jr. / Venom.

On the whole, Spider-Man 3 scores again with an intensified, if less action-packed, step up while at the same time, touching on universal themes of love (Parker & Mary Jane), family (Flint Marko & Daughter; Parker & Uncle Ben) and friendship (Parker & Harry).

Final verdict:
Plot - **** I Special Effects - **** I Substance - *** 1/2

4-5-1-2

State of Being : Sweaty

4-5-1-2 that's the number tag I received for the fourth annual JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge held on 3 May. It was my first attempt at participating in a mass run (11,856 participants in total), not considering the involuntarily ones in the army. The course itself was 5.6 km in distance and it took me 44 min 20 sec to complete it.

I was actually hoping to finish the run below 40 min but alas the huge turnout at the event proved difficult for one to squeeze your way through the people in front. In fact, many times I was kinda worried that I may either get tripped or cause someone to trip in the process of overtaking others!

By and large, a good experience and a lil' accomplishment so far for 2007! ;P

Rihanna's NEW Video

State of Being : Under my umbrella, ella, ella, ey, ey, ey

Revisit : Featured song in my iPod

When the sun shines, we'll shine together.
Told you I'll be here forever.
Said I'll always be a friend.
Took an oath, Ima stick it out till the end.
Now it's raining more than ever.
Know that we'll still have each other.
You can stand under my umbrella.
You can stand under my umbrella, ella, ella, ey, ey, ey.
Under my umbrella, ella, ella, ey, ey, ey.
Under my umbrella, ella, ella, ey, ey, ey.
Under my umbrella, ella, ella, ey, ey, ey, ey, ey.
