300

State of Being : Awed

Adapted from the graphic novel 300 by Frank Miller, 300 is based loosely about the Battle of Thermopylae, which took place in 480 BC.

Shot mostly with bluescreen to duplicate the imagery of the original comic book work and a year long post-production by a total of ten special effects companies, the visuals are simply surreal and captivating.

However, do be cautioned that gory scenes are aplenty throughout the entire film. Afterall, the movie is about the battle of the Spartans vs. the Persians. From spears piercing fighters' chests to legs shredding on contact, the blood definitely flies.

Overall, the film itself is gripping and emotional, depicting the nobility for what the Spartans stood and fought for, Freedom and Liberty for men who would not submitt to Tyrrany. A lesson many in the Free world would do good to remember again.

Highly recommended to all who are not adverse to bloodshed and violence!

Final verdict:
Plot - *** 1/2, Effects (Gory) - *****, Substance - ****
