Windows of Opportunities

State of Being : No Regrets

Ever wondered if you have ever made a wrong choice in your life? Hopefully this time it will be a right one for me. *cross fingers* Gonna turn down another offer to remain in my current job cos I foresee there'll be lots of exciting things in store for my present role in 2007.

As a start, I will be going to Ankara, flying business class, for a worldwide conference come Feb. The rest of the development will only unfold, after the Ankara trip. Stay tuned...

Hidden Agenda

State of Being : "Betrayed"

Met up with a uni friend K last Wed to catch up with each other and supposedly to view K's photos taken in Hanoi. What started off as a catching up slowly turned into a sales pitch instead!

K is involved in land banking and part-timing in Walton International. No wonder K is so persistent in meeting up for dinner. Actually felt kinda 'betrayed' into turning up for the investment talk! Had I know that K had this hidden agenda all along, I would not have agreed to the dinner. *pissed*

Free Makeover?

State of Being : Curious

Of course there's no such thing as "free". Received a call promising a free makeover; apparently was one of the 50 lucky winners drawn from a database. Turned up for the appt out of curiosity, expecting to have to pay $10-15 for each additional makeover pictures. The makeover was very minimal, with some hair styling and light powdering. Clad in my own attire, took close to 50 shots in the studio. The entire process was actually quite fun, posing witth minimal instructions from the female consultant. Finished the shooting in abount 30-45 min and was led to view the photos, where I prep myself for the sales pitch.

What surprised me that they are actually selling some lifetime membership for their services. Duh. Who would actually pay $2,188 for lifetime phototaking sessions, which include 2 event shooting (e.g. wedding & birthday) every 3 years, 1 passport shoot every year, etc etc. In fact, they are operating like a MLM co. promising members that they will earn back their membership fees through referral fees - $100 for 1st & 2nd successful referral, $150 for 3rd & 4th, $300 for 9th and above. Told them straight in the face that I've never been a fan of MLM!! Read this article "What's Wrong With Multi-Level Marketing? " by Dean Van Druff to better equip yourself with the pitfalls of MLM.

In the end, they had no choice but to "release" me with only 2 of the 50 photos taken. By the way, the co. is Snapz Image in case anyone is curious...

The Day After 2morrow (if there is one...)

State of Being : Shuddered to think what if...

Just watched the TV premier of the 2004 apocalyptic science-fiction film "The Day After Tomorrow", which depicts the catastrophic effects of global warming.

In the movie, global warming causes large areas of the Arctic ice shelf to break off and melt, thereby disrupting the Gulf Stream causing an unnatural cooling of the northern hemisphere. This then triggers a series of anomalies in the Earth's climate, eventually leading up to a massive "global superstorm" system consisting of three gigantic hurricane-like superstorms, which result in an ice age for the northern hemisphere within days.

Coming back to reality, I cannot help but shuddered at the thought that if such a day were to come, where could we hide??? Afterall, SIN is so small and there ain't many high grounds to escape the rising seawater.

In fact, the effects of global warming is certaingly alarming. In SIN alone, the continuous downpour for the past few weeks is testament enough that the weather is indeed changing. And the catastrophic effects of such changes is clearly evident in the flood situation in JB. Hopefully, there is still time to save the planet...

New Deco for the New Year!

State of Being : Arty

With the start of the new year, it's time to bring out the "arty" me. Found the wall deco in my room rather boring after close to 2 years. In fact, the X2 poster was bought during a Bangkok trip in 2004 and I had it mounted on a black board purchased from a art & craft shop back in Singapore. A relatively simple deco to fill up the empty wall space in my room.

Had initially wanted to simply purchase some paintings from Ikea to replace the poster. But after much deliberation, finally decided to try my hands at doing some canvas art since it would be more personalised. Bought the materials - canvas drawing boards, brushes, acrylic paints etc and finished the bulk of the deco during the first two days of the new year. Spent the next three days adding the finishing touches to the artwork after work.

Even though I felt it could have been better, but given the relatively short amount of time spent on completing the deco, I was overall quite satisfied with the final output. :)

Note: Stay tuned for more changes in 2007...

NYE Countdown to 2007

State of Being : Party Mood

31 Dec marks that time of the year where peeps from all over the world, including myself revel in ushering the new year. Met up with the usual group of friends for a countdown together, in fact this is our 9th countdown. We have always make it a point to turn up for the gathering, with the exception of 2004 where most of us are working overseas and I did the countdown with others instead.

Made dinner reservations at Shin Kushiya @ Vivo City. Had initially planned to join in the countdown at Vivo City but alas the party was by invitation only. Went over to St James Powerhouse to try our luck but as expected queues were snaking around the entrance. Debated over other possible venues like Thumper @ Goodwood Park Hotel, The Cannary @ Clarke Quay etc and finally decided to simply chill out at
Cosy Bay @ Tanjong Rhu. Though I would have preferred Thumper where there would more "noise" ushering in 2007 like last year at Chjimes.

Ushered in 2007 with party poppers & sparklers (given to us for free by a group of dinners beside our table). Real good catching up with old friends while savouring finger food, playing 5-10 and drinking Tiger beer at Cosy Bar till 3 plus... As usual, was kinda tipsy at the end of the nite (afterall I am not a strong drinker to begin with) =P
